Dodgers Pitcher Alex Vesia Shares Tragic Reason for World Series Absence
Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Alex Vesia has revealed the heartbreaking reason for his absence during the team’s World Series run.
Fans questioned his disappearance from the lineup, with the team citing a “deeply personal family matter.” Vesia and his wife, Kayla, have since shared that their newborn daughter, Sterling Sol Vesia, passed away on October 26.
In a joint Instagram post, they wrote:
“Our little angel, we love you forever. Our beautiful daughter went to heaven October 26th. There are no words to describe the pain, but we hold her in our hearts and cherish every second we had with her.”
The post included a photo of their hands resting on their daughter’s. The news came days after the Dodgers’ World Series win over the Toronto Blue Jays.
The Vesias thanked the team for their support:
“Our baseball family showed up for us, and we wouldn’t be able to do this without them.”
In tribute, Dodgers players wore Vesia’s No. 51 on their caps during Game 3.
“Ves means a lot to all of us,” said Clayton Kershaw. “We wanted to do something to honor him.”
Dodgers president Andrew Friedman added, “This is so much bigger than baseball. Our priority was simply to be supportive.”
