Most parents would agree that protecting our children becomes our top priority from the moment they’re born. We instinctively work to keep them safe, and the thought of them getting hurt is unbearable. Yet no matter how careful we are, accidents can still happen.
Jackie Fedro learned this the hard way. In 2016, she gave her 13-year-old daughter Gabbie an LG d500 cellphone for Christmas so they could stay in touch. But soon after, Jackie heard Gabbie scream from her room.
Gabbie ran downstairs in agony, struggling to explain that she’d been using her phone while it was plugged in. An electric shock traveled through the charging cable, into her phone, and then into her metal necklace, burning her neck. She suffered painful second-degree burns and will have a lasting scar.
Jackie has since urged other parents to be aware of lesser-known dangers associated with cellphones, especially as more kids use them every day.
