Carer fulfills dying woman’s last wish with song

We all grow old and eventually die. I’m not afraid of death itself — it feels natural — but I fear losing my independence, becoming unable to care for myself or even remember loved ones.

Maria was spending her final days in a care facility, aware her time was short. A lifelong singing and piano teacher, she missed being surrounded by music.

Luckily, one of her former students, Joshua Woodard, worked at the same care home in Austinburg, Ohio. He had known Maria since he was nine.

Maria’s last wish was to hear “How Great Thou Art” one more time. Joshua gladly fulfilled it, singing a heartfelt version of the hymn with the lyrics on his phone.

“Hospice workers are angels, but this aide is special,” said Marti Adkins Redmond. Maria’s sister-in-law captured the moving moment on film.
