Two villages in Romania were evacuated on Monday after a drone strike on a Turkish-flagged tanker, giving rise to a massive blaze in Southern Ukraine.
The MT Orinda was slammed while offloading liquified petroleum gas in the Ukrainian border city that’s located near Romania, sparking serious fires while more than a dozen people were onboard.
The strike came the day after Ukraine’s president signed a massive deal to import energy resources through the region where the strike arose.
This was the latest major strike by Russia, entailing drones, missiles, and artillery to batter the whole Odesa region, especially Black Sea ports, since the full-scale invasion from its neighbor nearly four years ago.
The strike on the Turkish tanker is being considered a huge violation by NATO. It arose overnight as part of a Russian air attack in which it fired two Iskander M ballistic missiles and 128 strike and decoy drones across the nation during the night hours, as per figures from Ukraine’s air force.
The tanker was hit while it was offloading liquified petroleum gas at the Izmail port, as confirmed by Turkey’s Directorate for Maritime Affairs, adding that all 16 crew members were evacuated safely and no one was hurt.
