A man who lost his family decides to adopt a boy with Down syndrome, hoping to fulfill his dream of being a father. After Rita and their baby die in a tragic accident, Dave is left heartbroken and empties the nursery they had prepared. He decides to adopt, and after much effort, he takes in two-year-old Sam, who has Down syndrome. Despite Sam’s health challenges, Dave falls in love with him instantly and gives him the care and affection he deserves.
Years later, when Sam is 12, Dave receives a call from a lawyer regarding Sam’s birth parents. The lawyer hands Dave a letter revealing that Sam’s biological father, who had been left a quadriplegic after the accident that killed his wife, had placed Sam for adoption because he couldn’t care for him. The letter expresses gratitude for Dave’s love and reveals a $1.2 million trust fund for Sam’s future. Dave vows to use the money to secure Sam’s future, reflecting on how the child was never abandoned, but always loved.
