Just like many homes around the world, the White House is being decorated for Christmas — though it’s no secret that Melania Trump hasn’t always enjoyed the job. Years ago, leaked recordings revealed her frustration with the First Lady’s traditional holiday duties.
This year, the White House Christmas tree arrived on November 24, and Melania welcomed it in a festive white Dior coat, red leather gloves, and plaid heels. Social media quickly lit up with both praise and mockery of her outfit. Some called her “elegant” and “glamorous,” while others joked she looked like she was wearing a “bathrobe” or trying to be the “angel on top of the tree.”
Melania inspected the tree briefly before leaving — prompting some outlets to label her a “Grinch.” The criticism ties back to a 2020 leaked audio recording, captured in 2018 by former friend and adviser Stephanie Winston Wolkoff.
In the recording, Melania expressed anger over being expected to handle Christmas decorations while simultaneously being attacked over the Trump administration’s family separation policy.
“I’m working my a** off on the Christmas stuff… who gives a f*** about the Christmas stuff and decorations? But I need to do it, right?” she said, also venting that critics blamed her unfairly while ignoring similar issues under previous administrations.
