A real-life British exorcist has warned that possession rarely begins with dramatic outbursts and instead develops slowly through subtle emotional and behavioral changes.
Ian Lawman, known as the Yorkshire Exorcist, told LADbible that most cases unfold gradually, often starting with low mood, depression, loss of appetite, and growing irritation toward friends and family. Over time, individuals may begin isolating themselves—something Lawman believes is central to how possession takes hold.
He said the process can last months or even years, feeding on emotional vulnerability, and in extreme cases has contributed to severe emotional distress and suicide.
Lawman also claimed that negative entities attempt to blend in by appearing ordinary, disguising themselves to avoid detection. According to him, the eyes can be a key indicator, as discomfort or unease may be noticeable during eye contact, especially around ordained individuals like himself.
While Lawman’s views are not supported by scientific consensus, they stand out for emphasizing gradual emotional warning signs rather than the dramatic portrayals commonly seen in films.
