Many people pop pimples to get rid of them quickly, but doctors are warning that doing so can be dangerous — especially on certain areas of the face.
Lish Marie popped a cyst-like pimple just below her nose and within hours ended up in urgent care with facial swelling, extreme pain, and partial facial paralysis. Doctors prescribed four medications, including antibiotics and steroids, and told her she was lucky to seek help quickly.
The pimple was located in what’s known as the “triangle of death,” an area stretching from the bridge of the nose to the corners of the mouth. According to dermatologists, infections in this zone can spread directly to the brain through connected veins, leading to serious complications such as blindness, stroke, paralysis, or even death.
Doctors strongly advise against popping pimples in this area. If treatment is necessary, it should be done with proper sterilization and minimal pressure — or handled by a medical professional.
