Jay Leno’s wife, Mavis, was diagnosed with advanced dementia in April 2024, and Leno was granted conservatorship over her. Married since 1980, the couple have shared decades together, with Leno long crediting their lasting marriage to loyalty and commitment.
Rather than placing Mavis in a care facility, the 75-year-old comedian chose to care for her himself. Speaking at the Love Ride charity event in November, Leno opened up about their life today, saying he feels “very lucky” and genuinely enjoys taking care of his wife.
“I like taking care of her, I enjoy her company, and we have a good time,” Leno said, adding that while it’s been challenging, it doesn’t feel like work. He also expressed gratitude for being able to provide both emotional and medical care for the woman he’s loved for decades.
