I thought I was giving my husband, Ryan, the perfect birthday gift by revealing my pregnancy, but when I came home, everything turned upside down. Seven suitcases, my twins’ confused explanation, and an unanswered phone made me believe everything was falling apart.
I had been thrilled to find out I was pregnant again, and with Ryan’s birthday coming up, I decided to surprise him with the news as his gift. I had the boys deliver a small box with the positive test while I went to the doctor for confirmation.
But when I came home, I was shocked to see seven suitcases lined up in the living room. My boys told me Ryan said my gift wasn’t good enough, and we were leaving for an “adventure.” I couldn’t reach Ryan, and panic set in. Was he upset about the baby? Was he leaving me?
When he finally came home hours later, smiling and carefree, I exploded. Turns out, he had booked a surprise family trip to celebrate the pregnancy. The suitcases were for our getaway, not a departure from our life together.
I was relieved, but still teary-eyed from the worry. We laughed, packed, and the next day, set off on what became one of our best trips. That’s when I told the boys they would be big brothers. And yes, we had a girl.
