Actress Melissa Gilbert has vowed to support her husband, actor and director Timothy Busfield, after he turned himself in to police following child sex abuse allegations.
Busfield surrendered on January 13, days after Albuquerque police issued a warrant accusing him of unlawful sexual contact with 11-year-old twin boys on the set of The Cleaning Lady. He is currently in custody at the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center.
The 68-year-old has been charged with two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor and one count of child abuse. Prosecutors plan to seek his continued detention while the case proceeds, with a judge to decide whether he will remain jailed or be released pending trial.
Busfield has strongly denied the allegations, calling them “lies” in a video shared online and vowing to fight the charges and clear his name.
Gilbert, his wife since 2013, has chosen not to comment publicly at this time, honoring her husband’s legal counsel’s request. Her representative said she remains focused on supporting Busfield and caring for their family during the legal process, asking that their privacy be respected.
