Celebrities often seem to have it all, but behind the glamor, struggles remain. Josh Brolin’s new memoir, From Under the Truck, reveals his difficult past and path to sobriety.
Brolin shares frightening childhood memories, including his mother Jane’s dangerous “Sic ’em” trick, where she would send wild animals after him and his brother. Despite her harshness, he loved her deeply. She died in a car accident at 55, an age Brolin once thought “decent” to die.
Brolin battled addiction for years, experimenting with drugs at a young age and struggling with alcohol well into adulthood. His 99-year-old grandmother’s deathbed moment in 2013 became the turning point; he’s been sober for over a decade.
He also reflects on stepmother Barbra Streisand’s “tough love” and now embraces 56 with gratitude, enjoying the peace and clarity sobriety brings.
