Fans think Green Day just made a statement during the pre-show

Posted on February 9, 2026 By admin

Punk rock band Green Day performed at the 2026 Super Bowl pre-show, sparking talk of political messaging.

Formed in the late 1980s, the band—Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool—is known for politically charged songs like American Idiot, criticizing war, inequality, and U.S. government policies.

At a recent San Francisco concert, Armstrong told ICE agents, “Quit your shitty-ass job…come on this side of the line.” The band performed three songs from American Idiot, including “Holiday” and “American Idiot,” which contain critical lyrics about America and its politics.

Fans reacted strongly: some condemned the performance as “woke garbage,” while others defended Green Day’s message and expected more political content during halftime.
