Eventually, Rachel invites Mary and her daughter to dinner. When Mary sees Dan, she becomes enraged, accusing him of being her child’s father who abandoned her during pregnancy. Shocked and defensive, Dan denies ever knowing her.
After a tense DNA test confirms Dan is indeed the father, he still insists he has no memory of Mary or her daughter. Rachel is left reeling, torn between her husband’s bewildered sincerity and the incontrovertible evidence. Her once-stable world is now thrown into doubt, forcing her to question everything she thought she knew about Dan and their life together.
