Legendary actor Robert Duvall, known for The Godfather, Apocalypse Now, and Tender Mercies, has died peacefully at 95 at his home in Middleburg, Virginia.
Born January 5, 1931, in San Diego, California, Duvall served in the Korean War before studying acting under Sanford Meisner in New York. Early in his career, he shared an apartment with Dustin Hoffman and spent time with Gene Hackman. His breakthrough came with The Godfather (1972) as Tom Hagen, earning him his first Oscar nomination.
Duvall’s career spanned decades, with iconic roles in MASH*, True Grit, Apocalypse Now, The Great Santini, and Tender Mercies, for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor. He continued acting into his 90s, with his final role in The Pale Blue Eye (2022).
His wife, Luciana Pedraza, said, “Bob passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by love… To the world, he was an Academy Award-winning actor, a storyteller. To me, he was simply everything. He leaves something lasting and unforgettable to us all.”
