New poll reveals how Americans really feel about Melania Trump compared to other first ladies

Posted on February 17, 2026 By admin

Melania Trump’s tenure as First Lady has been mostly private, with few public appearances. Before returning to the White House last year, she promised her second term would be different, splitting time between Washington, Palm Beach, and New York while continuing her duties.

Her Be Best initiative continued, but much of her focus was on a documentary, produced before her husband’s second inauguration. Amazon reportedly paid $40 million for the rights, and though reviews were mixed, Melania expressed pride in the outcome, saying, “We achieved what we want to achieve. For myself, it’s already successful.”

A recent YouGov poll reveals Americans’ opinions on her role. Conducted online among 2,255 adults in February 2026, it found Melania with a -16 approval rating—lower than Jill Biden (-9) but slightly above Hillary Clinton (-17). Other First Ladies like Nancy Reagan (+25), Lady Bird Johnson (+23), and Michelle Obama (+21) scored much higher, with Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis topping the list at +56. Melania’s rating was stronger among Republicans than Democrats.
