Former ESPN journalist Sarah Spain said she felt “ill” after unexpectedly sitting near U.S. Vice President JD Vance at the Winter Olympics earlier this month. Speaking on her podcast Good Game With Sarah Spain, she described the moment Vance and heavy security arrived during a USA hockey game.
Spain said the sudden presence of Secret Service agents blocked her view and disrupted the experience. She also criticized Vance personally, saying seeing him made her feel physically uncomfortable and “spooked.”
The incident followed the opening ceremony, where Vance and his wife were shown on camera and reportedly met with a mix of boos and applause. Despite the distraction, Team USA went on to win their game.
Vance, who led the U.S. delegation, had earlier encouraged athletes to enjoy the Games and said the entire country was rooting for them.
