Princess Diana died nearly 30 years ago, so we can’t know her views on today’s royal family. But she was a devoted mother to Prince William and Prince Harry.
According to royal writer Richard Kay, Diana once believed William was shy and unsure about becoming king. Because of that, she considered the possibility that Harry might take the role instead, even nicknaming him “Good King Harry.”
Today, that idea seems unlikely—William has grown confident in his role as Prince of Wales, while Harry lives in the U.S., and the two brothers are reportedly estranged.
Kay also noted that William has matured into his position and is expected to modernize the monarchy to keep it relevant.
