During her first state visit to the U.S. as Japan’s first female prime minister in October 2025, Sanae Takaichi was invited to the White House by Donald Trump.
At dinner, she mentioned Trump’s youngest son, Barron, who was turning 20 on March 20, saying through a translator: “He has grown into a very tall, good-looking gentleman. It’s clear where he got it from—from his parents.”
Trump smiled, thanked her, and lightly patted her back. Barron’s height has often drawn attention, and Trump previously credited it to Melania Trump’s family genetics.
Takaichi’s playful comment followed an earlier exchange where Trump gestured about Barron’s height, and she responded with a double thumbs up.
