A nationwide food safety alert has been issued after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration expanded a major recall of frozen products sold at Trader Joe’s due to possible glass contamination.
Ajinomoto Foods North America has recalled nearly 9.9 million pounds of Vegetable Fried Rice, after reports it may contain glass fragments large enough to pose serious health risks.
The affected one-pound bags were sold in 43 states, with best-by dates ranging from February 2026 to November 2026—meaning many could still be in home freezers.
The recall, first issued in February and expanded in March, now includes additional products like Chicken Fried Rice and Chicken Shu Mai, with dates extending into 2027.
Investigators traced the issue to contaminated carrots used as an ingredient. In total, nearly 37 million pounds of ready-to-eat foods across 16 brands—including Kroger and Tai Pei—have been affected.
No injuries have been reported so far, but officials warn consumers not to eat the products. Instead, they should discard them or return them for a refund and contact a healthcare provider if concerned.
Authorities urge people to check their freezers and stay updated as the recall continues to expand.
