Texas shocked after restaurateur, wife and two children found dead in suspected murder-suicide
A Texas community is mourning after a well-known restaurateur, his wife, and their two young children were found dead inside their Houston home in what authorities believe was a murder-suicide.
Police responded to a welfare check after family members and the children’s babysitter were unable to reach the family. Inside the residence, officers discovered Matthew Mitchell, 52, his wife Thy Mitchell, 39, their 8-year-old daughter, and 4-year-old son, all suffering from fatal gunshot wounds.
According to investigators, evidence at the scene suggests Matthew Mitchell fatally shot his wife and children before turning the weapon on himself. Authorities have not released a possible motive, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Matthew and Thy Mitchell were well known as the owners of Travelers Table, a popular Houston restaurant celebrated for its globally inspired cuisine. Their business gained national attention through appearances on Food Network shows, earning them a respected place in the city’s dining scene.
The tragedy has left family members, friends, and the local community devastated. Thy’s sister confirmed the deaths in a social media post, while many customers and colleagues shared messages of grief and support for the family.
