Darrell “Dash” Crofts, one half of the iconic soft-rock duo Seals & Crofts, has died at 85 from complications after heart surgery. With his passing, both members of the beloved ’70s duo are now gone.
Known for timeless hits like “Summer Breeze,” “Diamond Girl,” and “Get Closer,” Crofts helped define an era with the duo’s smooth, uplifting sound. Born in Texas in 1940, he began as a drummer before teaming up with Jim Seals, rising to fame with their 1972 breakthrough album Summer Breeze.
Their music, often influenced by the Baháʼí Faith, blended gentle melodies with spiritual themes, earning a lasting place in music history despite occasional controversy.
Crofts’ family remembered him for his kindness, compassion, and beautiful voice. His bandmate Jim Seals passed away in 2022, marking the end of a musical partnership that touched millions.
