Legendary Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham, 76, was reportedly attacked in Los Angeles on Wednesday. While arriving for an appointment in Santa Monica, a woman allegedly threw an unidentified substance at him before fleeing. Buckingham was not injured.
Authorities described the woman as a suspected stalker known to Buckingham from previous encounters. Both the LAPD and Santa Monica Police are investigating, with an arrest expected soon.
The incident follows a permanent restraining order Buckingham obtained against an alleged stalker named Michelle over a year ago. Court filings said she repeatedly harassed his family, made threats, falsely claimed to be his child, and demanded money. The five-year order requires her to stay at least 100 yards away from Buckingham and his family.
Buckingham, born October 3, 1949, in Palo Alto, California, rose to fame in the early 1970s as part of Buckingham Nicks with Stevie Nicks. He joined Fleetwood Mac in 1975, shaping the band’s sound on albums like Fleetwood Mac (1975) and Rumours (1977), and co-writing hits such as “Go Your Own Way” and “The Chain.”
He left the band in 1987, rejoined in the late 1990s, and toured globally until another fallout with Nicks led to his exit in 2018. Buckingham has also released solo albums, showcasing his distinctive guitar style and vocals throughout his career.
