Artemis II crew names moon crater after commander’s late wife – what happened to her!

Posted on April 7, 2026 By admin

During the historic Artemis II mission, astronauts traveled farther from Earth than any humans in history, surpassing Apollo 13. While in space, they proposed naming two previously unnamed lunar craters.

Mission Specialist Jeremy Hansen suggested “Integrity” to honor the Orion spacecraft. The second, “Carroll,” was a tribute to mission commander Reid Wiseman’s late wife, Carroll Wiseman, who died of cancer in 2020. The crater is visible as a bright spot from Earth.

The proposal was acknowledged by Mission Control, though official approval by the International Astronomical Union is still required. The gesture combined a milestone in space exploration with a deeply personal tribute.
