A routine traffic stop led to a major arrest in North Myrtle Beach. Officer Kayla Wallace pulled over a white Jeep for running a red light. The driver, scared and appearing ill, secretly mouthed “help me” to the officer.
It turned out the passenger, Collins Bates, had forced her to drive as a getaway after a shooting. Officer Wallace quickly secured Bates in her patrol car. A BOLO confirmed the vehicle and suspect matched a recent crime.
Bates, 29, was arrested and charged with attempted murder, kidnapping, and weapons offenses. A pistol was found under his seat. What started as a traffic stop uncovered a violent crime.
