Donald Trump is facing backlash—even from his own conservative and religious supporters—after posting an AI-generated image portraying himself in a Christ-like role.
The controversy followed a late-night attack on Pope Leo XIV, whom he called “weak” and “terrible,” alongside the image. The illustration showed Trump in robes, placing a glowing hand on a sick man, resembling traditional depictions of Jesus healing, with nurses, soldiers, and patriotic symbols like the American flag and Statue of Liberty in the background.
The post sparked accusations of blasphemy. Critics—including conservative Christians—called it “outrageous,” “disgusting,” and “sacrilegious,” urging him to remove it and apologize. Some questioned his intent, saying it showed a lack of humility.
The backlash highlights growing concern over Trump sharing stylized or symbolic images of himself, with many saying this one crossed a religious line.
