Phil Collins recently shared an emotional update on his health in an interview with MOJO magazine, revealing how health issues have hindered his ability to make music. He admitted, “I keep thinking I should go downstairs to the studio and see what happens. But I’m not hungry for it anymore.”
Collins has discussed the toll his long career as a drummer has taken on his body, particularly his hands and legs. In a 2022 interview, he expressed the emotional weight of this, saying, “The drumming has taken its toll… and I don’t want to be a caricature of myself, so I’d rather stop.” He’s made it clear he won’t perform unless he can do so at the level he once did. Despite this, he occasionally has moments where he imagines returning to music.
Although stepping away from drumming has been hard, Collins has accepted his retirement. He’s at peace with the fact that he can no longer perform as before, feeling grateful for the life he’s led and his family. “It’s okay,” he said, acknowledging he’s done most of what he wanted in his career.
Collins also suffers from drop foot, a condition affecting his ability to lift his foot due to a previous back surgery, which has made performing physically impossible. Despite these struggles, he remains thankful for his accomplishments and finds comfort in the things he can still enjoy.
Phil Collins’ legacy is secure, and his positive outlook and focus on family and gratitude showcase his resilience, even as he faces health challenges.
