King Charles and Queen Camilla spent two days in the U.S. during a 4-day state visit with President Donald Trump, aimed at strengthening relations between the two countries.
Unlike usual White House visits, there was no live Oval Office press conference. Reports say British officials requested the meeting be held behind closed doors to avoid public political clashes and protect royal neutrality.
During the visit, King Charles also addressed the U.S. Congress, referencing shared history and cooperation, including the 9/11 aftermath and NATO unity, while avoiding direct political debate.
The decision for a private meeting was also influenced by concerns over past tense press events involving Trump and other leaders, where public exchanges turned confrontational.
Under royal protocol, King Charles avoids political controversy, making a closed-door setting the safest option for the diplomatic visit.
