Bruce Campbell, best known as Ash Williams in The Evil Dead franchise, announced Monday that he has been diagnosed with a “treatable but not curable” form of cancer.
The 67-year-old actor shared the news on X, saying he will step back from work and public appearances to focus on treatment. He added that he hopes to recover enough to promote his upcoming film Ernie & Emma later this year.
Campbell said his plans and appearances are being paused while he prioritizes his health, though he remains optimistic about managing the condition.
Best known for The Evil Dead, Evil Dead II, Army of Darkness, and Ash vs Evil Dead, Campbell built a cult following over decades in horror and TV, also appearing in series like Burn Notice and directing several projects.
