Donald Gibb, best known for playing “Ogre” in the cult comedy Revenge of the Nerds, has died at 71. According to TMZ, Gibb passed away Tuesday evening at his home in Texas following ongoing health complications, surrounded by family.
His son, Travis, said Donald deeply loved his family, friends, fans, and faith, asking for prayers and privacy during this difficult time.
Born in New York City in 1954, Gibb first pursued football and briefly played with the San Diego Chargers before an injury led him to acting. He gained recognition in Any Which Way You Can before becoming famous as the tough but memorable “Ogre” in Revenge of the Nerds and its sequels.
Standing 6-foot-4, Gibb became known for his intimidating presence and unique voice, especially after starring alongside Jean-Claude Van Damme in Bloodsport as Ray Jackson.
He also appeared in popular TV shows including The X-Files, Cheers, and The A-Team. His final credited role was in the boxing thriller Hands.
