Larry Ely Murillo-Moncada disappeared in 2009 at age 25 after leaving his family home in distress during a blizzard in Council Bluffs. His parents said he had been suffering from hallucinations and acting strangely, possibly due to medication.
Larry, who worked at a local No Frills supermarket, vanished without a trace despite search efforts. For nearly 10 years, his family had no answers about what happened to him.
In 2019, workers clearing out the closed supermarket made a tragic discovery — Larry’s remains were found trapped in an 18-inch gap behind the store’s coolers. DNA testing confirmed his identity, and the clothing matched what he had been wearing when he disappeared.
Investigators ruled his death accidental, believing Larry climbed on top of the coolers and accidentally fell into the narrow space, becoming trapped where no one could hear him because of the loud freezer units.
Former employees later revealed they had complained for years about a terrible smell coming from the area, but it was dismissed.
Rest in peace, Larry Ely Murillo-Moncada.
