Former teen idol Leif Garrett’s life took a horrible downward spiral

Leif Garrett, the teen heartthrob of the ’70s and ’80s, never got the credit he deserved as an artist and performer. Despite achieving huge popularity, his career suffered due to drug addiction.

Starting as a child actor, Garrett became a sensation in the ’70s as a musician, releasing covers like The Wanderer and Surfin’ USA. He was adored by fans, especially young girls, and even had to be escorted by helicopter and armored car during tours due to the wild fanfare.

Garrett’s career took a dark turn in 1979 when a car crash, caused by drugs and alcohol, left his friend paralyzed. His descent continued as he became immersed in the rock-and-roll lifestyle with Freddie Mercury and other stars, leading to a series of bad decisions, arrests, and rehab stints.

His struggles were well-known, even landing him on World’s Dumbest and Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew. Despite these setbacks, Garrett remains grateful for his loyal fanbase and is sober today, reflecting on his journey with humility and appreciation for those who supported him through it all.
