Last week in Maseru, Lesotho’s elite were preoccupied with the internal conflict at Sentebale, Prince Harry’s charity. The focus shifted to Meghan, who had previously played a minor role in the drama. Harry resigned from the charity after a fallout with its chairwoman, Dr. Sophie Chandauka, sparked by her attempts to reform the organization. Dr. Chandauka alleged that donors pulled out due to Harry’s reputation, particularly after stepping down from royal duties, and accused him of harassment.
Tensions grew when Meghan and Dr. Chandauka clashed during a polo match. Meghan arrived unannounced with Serena Williams and barely acknowledged Dr. Chandauka, later snubbing her at the event. Despite this, Dr. Chandauka was publicly supportive of Harry but refused to defend Meghan when asked, triggering anger from Harry. Sources say his reaction led to a strained relationship with Dr. Chandauka, further deepening the charity’s troubles.
Harry then demanded a statement of support from Dr. Chandauka, which upset her. Tensions also flared between Sentebale and Archewell staff. Meanwhile, Dr. Chandauka recently raised concerns about bullying and racism within the charity. The Charity Commission has opened an investigation into Sentebale’s operations. Despite the ongoing drama, Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, who co-founded Sentebale with Harry, has remained silent, offering only sympathy for the situation.
