Rob Base, best known as one-half of the hip-hop duo Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock, has died at 59 after a private battle with cancer.

Born Robert Ginyard in Harlem, New York, Rob Base rose to fame in 1988 with the iconic hit It Takes Two, which became one of rap’s most recognizable party anthems. The duo also released popular songs like “Joy and Pain” and “Get on the Dance Floor.”

After the death of DJ E-Z Rock in 2014, Rob Base continued performing and touring, keeping their music alive for fans worldwide. He also mentored young artists through his company, Funky Base, Inc., and worked as an executive producer on the horror film Urban Flesh Eaters.
