Margaret loved her husband Simon and did everything for him, but she hadn’t felt his love in years. Her life felt like a routine, until she opened an unexpected box under the Christmas tree.
Her morning began like any other: waking early, preparing breakfast for Simon, and following her usual routine. When she served his meal, Simon barely acknowledged her, complaining about the bacon’s crispness. Margaret, always apologetic, continued to feel invisible. She suggested joining a book club, but Simon dismissed the idea, insisting she stay home.
Later, while decorating the tree, a delivery arrived. Roy, the delivery man, handed her a gift and an ornament, which made Margaret smile. When he asked about Simon, she explained he didn’t like surprises. Roy seemed concerned and hinted that Simon hadn’t planned anything for Christmas.
That evening, Simon didn’t answer her calls, and Margaret grew anxious. As she looked at the tree, she noticed a package she hadn’t bought. Inside was a friendship bracelet, identical to one she had, with a note: “I’ll be waiting for you where we made our promise.” Margaret, heart racing, knew exactly where it was.
At the school, she met Roy, who revealed he was the boy from her past. He had kept the bracelet all these years, honoring a promise they made. The emotions overwhelmed her, but Margaret hesitated, torn between her old life with Simon and the possibility of something real with Roy.
Finally, Margaret chose herself. She kissed Roy, letting go of her past. It wasn’t perfect, but it was real. And for the first time in years, she felt loved.
