Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani has been hospitalized in critical but stable condition after developing pneumonia, according to his spokesperson and business associate. His spokesman said Giuliani’s past diagnosis of restrictive airway disease—linked to exposure during the September 11 attacks—made the illness more severe, requiring mechanical ventilation before he was able to breathe on his own again.
Giuliani, 81, is now recovering with family and doctors by his side. Former mayor Eric Adams also wished him a full recovery, saying the moment rises above politics.
Known as “America’s Mayor” for his leadership after 9/11, Giuliani later became a close ally and attorney to Donald Trump. In recent years, he has faced multiple legal and financial battles tied to the 2020 election, while continuing to remain active in politics and media appearances.
