King Charles and the UK were left shocked after a tragic accident at the Royal Windsor Horse Show claimed the life of 24-year-old Lance Bombardier Ciara Sullivan of the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery.
Ciara fell from her horse after a performance and was reportedly dragged under a heavy gun carriage. Despite immediate medical assistance, she sadly died at the scene.
The ceremonial unit is known for fast-paced displays using First World War-era field guns pulled by teams of horses. Reports say Ciara was riding closest to the carriage when the accident happened, sparking calls for improved safety measures.
Friends and colleagues remembered her as a fearless rider, outstanding soldier, and “a bright light in any room.” King Charles was said to be “shocked and saddened” and planned to personally send condolences to her family.
Police confirmed the incident remains unexplained but is not being treated as suspicious.
Rest in peace, Ciara.
