Broadway actor and social media personality Bret Hanna-Shuford has died at 46. His husband, Stephen Hanna-Shuford, shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram, saying Bret passed away peacefully surrounded by family.
Bret was known for his performances in Wicked, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Amazing Grace, and Paramour. He also appeared in The Wolf of Wall Street, Law & Order: SVU, Only Murders in the Building, and voiced characters in Red Dead Redemption 2.
Earlier this year, Bret was diagnosed with rare immune-related conditions, including T-cell lymphoma. A fundraiser created by friends raised over $300,000 to help with medical expenses and support his family.
Together with Stephen, Bret ran the popular “Broadway Husbands” social media account, sharing their lives as performers, partners, and parents to their 3-year-old son, Maverick. He is survived by Stephen and Maverick.
