Kira Meyer died at just 12 years old after suffering a severe brain injury in an electric scooter accident. Her mother, Angelique Meyer, first revealed that Kira had been hospitalized in the ICU and placed in a coma after being airlifted to the hospital.
Days later, Angelique shared that Kira was no longer under sedation but remained unresponsive. On May 16, she heartbreakingly announced that three doctors had declared Kira brain dead, while asking supporters to continue praying for the family during the difficult time.
Throughout the ordeal, Angelique thanked people for their prayers and support, and later announced a memorial service for Kira.
South African Figure Skating Association also paid tribute, calling Kira a cherished member of the skating community whose presence on and off the ice would be deeply missed.
