Firefighter suffers third-degree burns – this is him 11 years later!

Posted on May 31, 2026 By admin

Patrick Hardison, a former volunteer firefighter, suffered life-changing injuries in a house fire in 2001 while trying to rescue someone. He was left with third-degree burns across his face, scalp, neck, and upper body, losing his ears, lips, nose, and eyelids. He endured over 70 surgeries and lived for years with severe disfigurement, pain, and social stigma.

In 2015, he underwent the most extensive face transplant ever performed in the U.S., a 26-hour surgery with a 50/50 survival chance, led by a team of over 100 medical professionals. The procedure was successful, giving him a new face and restoring key functions like blinking and facial movement.

Since then, Patrick has rebuilt his life, takes lifelong medication to prevent rejection, and now shares his story to inspire others that recovery and hope are possible even after extreme trauma.
