Buddy was cruelly set on fire and strangled with an extension cord – but look at him today

It’s heartbreaking how cruel some people can be to dogs. One such victim was Buddy, a happy and gentle dog who was horrifically burned in April 2021 after being set on fire by a child. Found with severe facial burns and an extension cord around his neck, Buddy began a long road to recovery under the care of the Tunica Humane Society and Mississippi State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine.

Despite the trauma, Buddy showed remarkable resilience. He kept a positive spirit, responded well to skin grafts, and retained his eyesight. Over time, his bandages were reduced, and his playful personality began to return.

A major milestone came when his bandages were removed, allowing him to see for the first time in months—marking a powerful moment of hope after tragedy. His caretakers report he’s now happy, playful, and slowly returning to normal life, though he will need lifelong special care due to his injuries.

Buddy’s story touched thousands and became a symbol of hope and healing.
