Karmelo Anthony was sentenced to 35 years in prison for the murder of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf, who was fatally stabbed during a track and field event in Frisco, Texas, in April 2025 after an argument over seating escalated.
Witnesses said Austin told Anthony to move from another school’s tent, which led to a confrontation. Austin was then stabbed and later died from his injuries.
During the sentencing, Austin’s father, Jeff Metcalf, delivered an emotional victim impact statement, demanding Anthony look at him and condemning him for the killing. He said the loss had “destroyed” his life and described his grief as overwhelming rage rather than sadness.
He also said he forgave Anthony for his own peace but would never forgive the act itself, adding that actions have consequences and emphasizing accountability.
Anthony was seen looking down as the family spoke, while the court heard the devastating impact the tragedy had on Austin’s loved ones.
