A grieving grandmother shared a final photo of her 3-year-old granddaughter, Scarlett Jensen, taken just moments before the child was tragically killed in a hit-and-run in Oldtown, Idaho, on October 7, 2022.
Scarlett had been out for ice cream with her 2-year-old brother Henry and their grandmother while their parents were away at a wedding. As they returned home, Scarlett got out of her stroller to pick flowers when a speeding Chevy Tahoe struck all three.
“Scarlett was killed almost instantly,” said her mother, Samantha Jensen. Her mother and Henry were critically injured. The driver fled but was later arrested and is now serving a 10-year sentence.
Henry suffered multiple severe injuries, including a fractured spine, and spent a week in intensive care. The grandmother had several broken bones but was eventually released from the hospital.
Weeks later, Samantha found her mother’s phone and discovered a photo of Scarlett taken just five minutes before her death. “It captures the peaceful feeling of her last moments,” she said. “I’m so thankful to have that photo—it’s how I’ll always remember her.”
Now, the family is focusing on healing. “Some days feel like I’m drowning,” Samantha shared. “But my faith and therapy are helping us move forward.”
