Actress Daveigh Chase, best known for her roles in The Ring and Lilo & Stitch, has reportedly died at 35.
According to TMZ, Chase died on June 16 from meningitis and a blood infection, her boyfriend Roy Hernandez said. She had reportedly been hospitalized in Los Angeles earlier this month due to malnutrition. Hernandez also launched a GoFundMe campaign, saying Chase had endured a difficult childhood, become estranged from her family and was in critical condition after being diagnosed with meningitis and multiple blood infections.
Chase began acting at age 8 and rose to fame with Donnie Darko, later voicing Lilo in Disney’s Lilo & Stitch and Chihiro in the English version of Spirited Away. She became a horror icon as Samara in The Ring, earning an MTV Movie Award for Best Villain.
She also appeared in ER, The Practice, Touched by an Angel, CSI, and HBO’s Big Love. Her final film was American Romance (2016), and she had largely stayed out of the spotlight in recent years.
