Actor Danny Glover has revealed that he has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, sharing the news during a pre-recorded interview that aired on NBC’s Today show.
The 79-year-old actor said he learned of the diagnosis shortly after receiving an honorary Oscar in 2022. Glover explained that while the news was difficult, he has accepted it and is preparing for the changes the illness may bring.
“I could live with it, in a sense,” he said, acknowledging the progressive nature of the disease.
Glover also spoke warmly about the support he has received from his family, crediting them with helping him navigate the diagnosis.
His daughter, Mandisa Glover, said she felt it was important for her father to share his story himself rather than have others speak on his behalf.
Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia, gradually affecting memory, thinking, and daily functioning. While there is currently no cure, treatments and support services can help manage symptoms and improve quality of life.
Glover, known for a long career in film and television, continues to be recognized as both an actor and activist.
