British actor Anthony Head, best known for his roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Ted Lasso, has died at the age of 72.
His daughters, actors Emily Head and Daisy Head, confirmed the news, saying he passed away peacefully due to complications from pneumonia while surrounded by family.
In a statement, they described him as “an extraordinary father” and said it was an honour to witness both his life and his lasting impact on audiences worldwide.
Anthony Head built a career spanning more than four decades across television, film, and theatre. He first gained recognition in the UK through commercials before rising to international fame as Rupert Giles, the beloved mentor and librarian in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
A new generation later came to know him as Rupert Mannion in Ted Lasso, where his performance was praised for its mix of humour, depth, and emotional complexity.
His credits also included Doctor Who, Merlin, The Iron Lady, and Little Britain, alongside numerous stage performances in London’s West End.
He is survived by his daughters, Emily and Daisy Head, and his brother, musician and actor Murray Head.
