Actress Anna Dawson, best known for playing Violet Bucket in the beloved British sitcom Keeping Up Appearances, has died at the age of 88.
Her passing was confirmed in a statement shared by members of Christ Church Anglican in Kororāreka Russell, New Zealand, where she was described as a “much treasured member” of the community. The church noted she died peacefully, and that funeral arrangements would be announced later.
Dawson’s husband, John Boulter, passed away just six months earlier.
Her acting career began in 1964 on Dixon of Dock Green, and she later appeared in popular British shows including The Benny Hill Show, Morecambe and Wise, Blankety Blank, and Give Us a Clue.
She became widely recognized in the 1990s for her role as Hyacinth Bucket’s glamorous sister Violet in Keeping Up Appearances, often referenced for her “Mercedes, sauna, and room for a pony.”
