When Elaine’s daughter Nina suddenly stops visiting, she believes they are just going through a difficult phase. But as the silence grows, she begins to fear something is terribly wrong.
Nina, 25, was once her closest companion. She visited often, filling the house with laughter and memories. Then, little by little, the calls stopped. The excuses started. Birthdays, holidays, and family dinners passed without her.
Elaine tried asking what was wrong, but Nina always said, “I’m just busy, Mom.”
Until one day, they unexpectedly meet at a grocery store.
Elaine finally asks the question she’s been afraid to ask.
“Why did you stop coming?”
Nina’s answer breaks her heart.
“It wasn’t you, Mom. It was Richard.”
She reveals that during one of her last visits, Richard found her private diary and mocked her deepest pain, including the miscarriage that had left her emotionally broken.
Elaine is devastated. She realizes the man she trusted had been hurting the person she loved most.
That night, she leaves Richard. She files for divorce, removes him from her home, and chooses her daughter over a marriage built on silence.
Weeks later, Elaine arrives at Nina’s door with an apology and a simple key lime pie.
“I thought you’d choose him over me,” Nina admits.
“I already did once,” Elaine says. “I won’t ever do it again.”
Slowly, they rebuild what was broken.
Sunday dinners return. They bake together. They laugh again.
Elaine learns that sometimes choosing the truth means losing what you thought you needed — and finding what mattered all along.
She chose peace. She chose her daughter. And finally, she chose herself.
