A major food safety alert has been issued after nearly 650,000 pounds of frozen tater tots were recalled due to possible contamination with small hard plastic fragments.
The recall affects about 21,600 bulk cases of frozen potato products made by McCain Foods in Idaho, including Ore-Ida Tater Tots and Sonic Tots. The products were distributed to food-service suppliers in 28 states and were mainly intended for restaurants, schools, and institutional kitchens—not regular grocery stores.
No injuries have been reported, but officials warn the plastic pieces could cause choking, dental damage, or injury if eaten. Businesses are urged to stop using affected products and check recall codes immediately.
