Veteran journalist Katie Couric revealed she experienced a frightening health scare after suddenly losing several hours of memory.
The 69-year-old said the episode happened on June 27 while attending the Aspen Ideas Festival in Colorado. She remembered events until around noon, but several hours afterward were “a big, black hole.”
After her husband noticed she appeared weak and dizzy, Couric was taken to the hospital. Doctors checked for a possible stroke, but tests showed no signs of one.
She was diagnosed with transient global amnesia, a rare condition that causes temporary memory loss while a person remains awake and aware.
Doctors say the condition usually lasts less than 24 hours, and most people recover completely.
Couric said the experience was frightening but she is relieved it was not something more serious.
